Quantum/K3 setup

Goal:

Tune GIF with spot 2.
Linear gain reference with spot 2.
Counting gain reference with spot 6.

ALWAYS INSERT THE FLU-SCREEN WHEN CHANGING OPTICS ON THE K2 OTHERWISE YOU WILL BURN THE CAMERA!!!

Titan UI:

INSERT FLU-SCREEN!
Go to an empty sample area.

Drop out of Low Dose if that's still on, we should be in Nanorpobe, if not, switch to Nanoprobe mode: Beam Setting control panel, flap-out Tuning, Nanoprobe should be yellow.

Use the magnification you later intend to use:

Set spot size to 2, Nanoprobe, the beam should just cover the small green circle on flu-screen ( = GIF entrance aperture).
Screen up.

Digital Micrograph:

Change the user level: Digital Micrograph\Help\User Mode\Power User
Open the energy filter control window: Digital Micrograph\Window\Filter Control

Microscopy tab on the left, Tune GIF window:
Make sure a 20 eV slitt is in in the Filter Control Window.
If not, click on Slit and type 20 for slit:

Click Tune GIF.
Select Full Tune.

When presented with this message, select Keep:

K3 Gain Reference

INSERT FLU-SCREEN!

Again, different magnifications need different settings:

Flu-cam viewer, retract screen.

Digital Micrograph:

Menu Camera/Prepare Gain Reference. If you don't see camera menu option, select menu Help/User Mode/Power user.
Follow instructions and always use default settings.
Collect Gain Reference.

You will be asked in Digital Micrograph to adjust beam with intensity.
On the left hand panel, switch to fine control for the intensity knob:
Slowly adjust intensity to get ~1280 counts average over the sectors, keep in mind there is some lag.
Hit Done.

Linear gain ref takes several minutes, do not go away, just wait for it.

Put the fluscreen down, go four spot sizes up (right hand panel R3), then select Collect Gain refference:

Leave the settings at default, just click Ok.

You will be asked in Digital Micrograph to adjust beam with intensity.
On the left hand panel, switch to fine control for the intensity knob:
Slowly adjust intensity to get ~15 counts average over the sectors, keep in mind there is some lag.
Hit Done.

Counting gain ref takes same time as linear gain ref.

Click Ok, gain ref done.
